A Downy Woodpecker. These little guys stay all winter here in Manitoba, Canada, and are frequent visitors to my backyard, to feast on sunflower seeds and suet.
A gorgeous shot~!
what a beautiful shot
So cute Great shot!
Thanks so much Ruth. I am so glad you like it. They are very cute little guys. We also have their bigger cousin the Hairy Woodpecker who frequents the feeder, and a Pileated Woodpecker who lives in the back quarter section. He doesn't come to the feeder, but occasionally shows up in the yard on the hydro pole, and you can hear him when he is hammering on a tree from a long ways away.
What a wonderful looking bird Candace I like that touch of red on its head
The little Downy Woodpeckers are very frequent visitors all winter Mary-Anne. They also have an almost identical cousin called the "Hairy Woodpecker". Same coloring and markings only larger and with a longer beak. They love the suet pies that I make them.
