Peek-a-boo Redpoll

This is a female Common Redpoll. A regular visitor to my backyard and the bird feeder.

Common Redpolls are renowned for their effective winter adaptations, but they have a very small surface area relative to their internal volume, so they are in constant danger of running out of fuel. Hence, redpolls must eat almost constantly during winter, and most of their time is spent gleaming waste grain from fields or stocking up on seed in winter feeders.
